Day sixty-three – Sleeping dogs

Let them tell untruths

Aparna called a tuktuk for us from right outside the gate, and we were dropped off back home: the Bread Box.  As soon as we had dropped our bags back in our room, we went down there to refuel – cappuccinos, a club sandwich, cake.

And then, for most of the rest of the day, we alternated between resting and working.  And for dinner, I went out to fetch some momos, which we ate washed down with beer – delicious.

The dogs are just an illustration, really, of another aspect of daily life here.  Everyone knows that cows are holy here, allowed to wander as they will, or lie down to sleep in the middle of the highways.  But dogs, without their saintliness, are allowed the same privilege, and occupy much the same spaces, ie wherever they want to go, often mingling with cows on the highway.  Their one saving grace is that, unlike in some countries that we can remember, they are never aggressive.  A bit loud at times, in the middle of the night, but otherwise harmless.
