While Covid was raging, one heard all the time about various types of rehearsal, for all sorts of events taking place online – choirs, monologues, whatever. But this was my first introduction to any sort of venture of this kind. Roji was with us, or at least on the end of Hamed’s phone, and we propped him up on a chair. Somewhat remarkably, it was most successful, or at least was so in a limited way. It certainly gave them a chance to run through the words, and actually that is probably as big a concern as any.
And actually, they are doing very well. They are not yet word-perfect, but sections are really coming together now. But we still have a month or so, and the play is of a manageable length – thirty minutes or so.
And things are starting to come together so far as performances are concerned, and actually we now have a two-pronged approach, as we are in discussions about doing a performance in Portland, as well as London. There is now just one performance scheduled in London, organised by Counterpoint Arts at the Yorkton building in Hackney, for the Friday evening, but that does now appear to be very solid, with various forms and required information completed and sent. The one other possibility is the Beck Theatre once again, but as silence seems to have descended there, perhaps that has now receded – I shall persevere.
But it does seem that Zhvan Theatre Company will have at least another hurrah. But after that…? Hmm.
