I had anticipated having my first go at virtual directing today, and we duly gave Roji a call, but though he was able to chat with us, a rehearsal as such was not appropriate. For in fact he was in London! He had hoped to be able to join us, but he had been brought to London in order to have a meeting with the charity he has been working for (and they had paid his expenses, so I could scarcely complain.)
So we were back to Plan A, which is for me to replace Roji (temporarily, rehearsal purposes only) and actually it went very well. Sasha was back with us today, and did well – he really does seem to have an instinct for the sort of role we have for him. He was also able to try out the two vital props we have for him – a megaphone (for when he plays Pozzo, the immigration official), and a gull’s head mask (for when he plays the gull.)
I am very keen for this production to go ahead, for I am proud of it as a piece, as well as thinking that it provides a great opportunity for the three performers. And I do think it will go down well, provided we can put it before an audience. For that is what is causing me the greatest problem at the moment. At one time, we had three possible performances lined up, but none of them are anything like as conformed as I would want them to be. Still, it was ever thus, and we will just have to keep plugging away at possibilities. Including, perhaps, one in Portland. I have a contact there now, who has given me some names to contact. Fingers crossed.
