The day started very oddly.  I’d been lying awake for some time, + eventually, feeling it must be near enough

It was a long journey, nearly 16 hours, but we have had many which have been shorter + worse.  Even

At about midnight we stopped at a station + quite a lot of people got off, + I took the

We slept a little overnight, tho’ not nearly as much as we had expected, seeing as we must have been

The sleeping car made all the difference, + I don’t think that, on longer trips, I will want to travel

Started off the day with dumplings for breakfast, brought to me in bed by Val.  We became heartily sick of

We breakfasted at the hotel, hoping really that we might be able to get a Western-style meal.  However, we didn’t

We were awoken early by the switching on of the lights, ready for an early arrival in Luoyang, tho’ we

In keeping with the general molly-coddling we’ve had on the train, one of the conductresses made sure we knew that
