A page in Spanish

Nada tiempo.

No time.  This page is in Spanish, and for a good reason.  I have delayed, and not written anything here  for ages.  Now, to pay for what I have done, a page in Spanish.  It’s easy, no?  No, it’s not easy, it’s very difficult.  Forgive me, but I have forgotten most of what I learned.  And now it is my particular problem, that I think in English, and then translate.  However, let’s go!  The date today is the 7th of February, and I am in a village called San Pedro,  very close to Lake Atitlan.  Val has just returned, after a day at work.  She is learning how to make typical local things.  And me?  I have spent the day writing a letter to a friend, reading a little, and walking around the village.  The village is not very interesting, however it is typical of Guatemala – narrow dirt streets, many hills, many small shops which sell everything.

Tonight, we are going to a new restaurant, that a friend has told us is very good.  The others here are not so good!  Val wants to stay here a week, but I think that the village is not interesting enough.  However, we will do what she says, because I want her to do what I say at times.  At the end of the week, I think we will go to San Jose, Guatemala’s second port, where, if possible, we will find a boat to Peru.  If there isn’t one, we will take a minibus to Costa Rica, or Panama, and walk.

I think that we have three more months for our holidays, and then we need to go back to England, to our friends, to our mothers, to… who knows?  It is possible there will be no work for us, and if there is no work, there’s no money.  But right now, we have other problems.  Life, the universe, everything… as they say.  And now I have a smaller problem – how to write a page in Spanish.  I wouldn’t want Pedro to see it.

So, clearly I had time on my hands, and so took on the task of bringing my diary up to date, starting with this self-appointed task of writing in Spanish. And I know exactly how far I was behind, for this page appeared in the diary on Jan 28th. But at least this page does what so many miss, which is to talk about our future plans.
